When Was it written
Thomas Paine's "The Crisis Number 1" was written on December 23, 1776. He wrote this while he traveled with the Continental Army and it is said that "The
Crisis" helped inspire and motivate the soldiers to keep on fighting in the Revolution. Also by this time the Revolutionary War was in its first year and some of the
major battles that had occured were the battle of Bunker Hill and the battle
of the White Plains. Also the Declaration of Independence had been made,
however even though all these things had occured there were still Americans
who were not helping in the Revolution against England.
